Taxpayers may be at risk with new ‘pay now, argue later’ rule
Taxpayers should brace themselves for the “pay now, argue later” rule which is now triggered whenever the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issues a tax assessment. In terms of the rule, which came into effect on 1 February, SARS is empowered to collect monies from a taxpayer within the set timeframe even if the latter objects to the assessment amount.
